About Steven Lovelace: Steven Lovelace began his dance career in Kay Fulton’s Santa Barbara City College Dance Department. Since then, he danced with Repertory-West Dance Company, Santa Barbara Dance Theatre, Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera, Bill Evans Dance Company, and Nora Reynolds Dance. Additionally he has performed in works by such dance luminaries as Remy Charlip, David Parsons, Lucas Hoving, and Tim Wingerd. 

Steven has a long history with Santa Barbara’s  Summer Solstice Celebration beginning in 1981. He was an Artist-in-Residence  1987-90, Artistic Director 1996-98 and served on it’s board of directors.

Steven was a member of the Lit Moon Theatre Company, performing featured parts in the past five Lit Moon World Theatre Festivals and working with international theatre and music artists such as Eva Magyar of Hungary and Nicole Renaud of France. The company performed in festivals in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2000, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in 2001, and won awards for the production of Hamlet at the 2003 Montreal Fringe Festival.

Steven  co-directed Dance Warehouse from 1985-91 and was the Assistant Director of the Santa Barbara Dance Alliance  1986-87.  In Albuquerque, N.M., he directed the jazz and modern dance program for Sandra’s School of Dance from 1991-95. He has taught locally at Laguna Blanca, Marymount, Cate, Crane School and San Marcos High School.   In January 1999, Steven taught and set a new dance work on the student company of Eastern New Mexico University.

In March 2003, Steven and his business partner Alana Tillim, opened Santa Barbara Dance Arts. Located in the Funk Zone of downtown Santa Barbara two blocks from the beach, SB Dance Arts is 8200 sq ft. that includes four dance studios, an art gallery and a café. The they also started the non-profit Arts Mentorship Program (AMP), which holds the student companies of SB Dance Arts, and offers scholarship opportunities to young artists and dancers in Santa Barbara who would otherwise be unable to study their passion.  AMP has worked in coordination with the United Way, Girls Inc. and the Police Action League to provide venues to under-privileged children. Steven also is co-director of Stage Left Productions with Shana Lynch Arthurs, a pre-professional summer musical theatre program for ages 10-20 years.
