David Alvarez is the owner of Santa Barbara Dance Center (formerly known as A Fascinating Rhythm), and he has been in business for almost 13 years. David was born in Texas, and is the youngest of ten children. All of his siblings were great Cumbia dancers, and when David realized how much fun they were having, he begged them to teach him to dance. Eventually, he was noticed by the owner of his hometown ballroom studio, and was asked to train in all the ballroom and Latin dances. After certification, he went on to teach in Tennessee, then Hawaii, in Arthur Murray and in Fred Astaire studios. David frequently competes in dancesport championship competitions throughout the U.S., and sometimes internationally. He and his students win many awards. In May, David won the Top Teacher Award at The Emerald Ball competition in Los Angeles. David LOVES to dance and teach, and this shows clearly in his inspiring, joyous, encouraging teaching style, which has made him an extremely popular instructor.
